Highlights
  • Iodine is a small market, about 40,000 tonnes a year S, and concentrated: Chile mined 23,000 tonnes in 2025, 68% of world output outside the United States P, and one Chilean company holds about 37% of world sales S. Almost a third of demand is X-ray contrast media, the dye injected for CT scans.
  • Unlike helium, iodine has usable free prices. Four public series, from US customs, a spot survey and two producers' accounts, sit between $68.0 and $74.7 per kilogram, a spread of 9.8% KR. That is close enough for a buyer to benchmark a contract without a paid subscription.
